Hello, lovely reader,
Have you read my long-read article on brain health? I’ll share articles like this monthly. Drop me a note if there’s a topic you’d love to see covered or if you’re an expert who would like to collaborate with me.
Oh, and one final call for Millennials to complete my menopause research! Those born between 1981 to 1996, please take this short survey and share it far and wide. The findings will appear in a positive media article around aging, and I’ll share the full results with you all soon.
Three ways to help close the gender health gap this week
Read how the menstrual cycle can impact the risk of injury
New research has identified that women are more likely to get injured during the days leading up to their periods.
A long-term monitoring study of the England Women’s Super League saw 593 cycles tracked across 26 players. Players were six times more likely in the pre-menstrual phase and five times more likely in the early-mid luteal phase to experience a muscle injury, compared to when they were menstruating.
Although only a small study, the research is peer-reviewed and should (hopefully) open the door to further investigation.
Read the summary here and the full study here.
Learn more about acute abnormal uterine bleeding
Uterine health startup, Avana Health, is hosting a free expert panel on acute abnormal uterine bleeding (AUB).
AUB, sometimes called Dysfunctional Uterine Bleeding (DUB), is the overarching term for any bleeding that deviates from a ‘normal’ cycle (including length, regularity, heaviness of periods).
AUB affects 33 million women annually in the US alone, with 7.5 million of these cases ending up at emergency care. Acute AUB often goes under-recognized, and there has been a lack of innovation in treatment solutions.
If you’re a healthcare professional, researcher, or interested patient, sign up here to attend on May 31st from 1 to 2pm EDT.
Share your experience of women’s health at work
How is your workplace supporting women’s health? Are there policies in place? Do they create an environment where you feel able to discuss any issues?
Women’s wellness platform, Unfabled, wants to know!
The brand has launched it’s inaugural Women’s Health in the Workplace survey. It focuses on menstrual or hormonal health symptoms. Whether or not you've faced a women's health issue, this survey is for everyone. Men included.
Bonus this week is your ticket to deeper sleep. I’ve used hypnotherapy app, Clementine, for many years to help with sleep and calm my thoughts. The brand has launched a new set of deep sleep soundscapes, which you can access for free over the next two weeks. Download the app here.
