Hello, lovely reader,
I’m delighted to see several women’s health brands make the TIME’s Best Inventions of 2024 list.
Many female-focused brands feature in its ‘Home Health’ category, including Daye’s diagnostic tampon and Nuvo Invu’s at-home remote pregnancy monitoring device.
Over in the medical care category, Roche’s HPV self-collection method gets a shout-out. Plus, Aspivix Carevix makes the list for its work to reduce the discomfort of IUD fittings.
There are some very cool things on the full list so it’s worth reading here.

Three ways to help close the gender health gap this week
Learn what’s keeping you up at night
Having endured nearly fifteen months of broken slumber with my first son, I know how problematic it can be when you don’t have enough. It almost broke me.
Thankfully, I’m now a solid eight hours sleep kinda gal. But I’ve worked hard to get there. My setup now includes hypnotherapy tracks if I have trouble dropping off, window slightly open, total blackout, not even a speck of light.
But you may not be surprised to learn that insomnia affects women more than men. In a new piece by Dr Michelle Griffin for BBC Science, she reports a 58 per cent higher prevalence rate.
Read more about what causes our sleep disturbances here.
(I’m planning to do a long-read piece on sleep soon. Stay tuned for that!..I also hope some of you enjoyed the Faithless reference.)
Share your menopause experience as a Black or global majority woman
The Habari Project is a national survey that studies the effects of menopause on Black and racialised minority women in the UK.
Via an online questionnaire, the researchers aim to explore the cultural, systemic and personal factors that may influence how people navigate the menopause transition.
The research is supported by leading women’s health and health inequalities clinicians and specialists, including Dr Yansie Rolston.
Download a new way to access support as a Black parent
Last year, I had the pleasure of joining Five X More’s Women’s Health Summit. It was the most powerful event I’ve been to in a long time, in large part thanks to the courageous work of the charity’s founders.
If you don’t know Five X More, it’s an organisation working to fix the racial disparities in pregnancy, childbirth and beyond. It aims to help achieve better maternal outcomes for all.
The charity has launched the UK’s first pregnancy and parenting app specifically for Black women and birthing people. And, it’s completely free.
Find it on your app store or learn more here.
This week’s bonus is a must-read if you’re struggling with online censorship of your brand. In a sponsored article, Monica from Palteq Ltd explains how to prepare for and overcome rejection on social media. Read it here.
