Hello there,
My mind is on misinformation this week. It started after I spotted a note by
about a misleading newspaper article on HIIT workouts. The headline and supporting image implied it was now scientifically proven that this type of exercise may lead to weight gain. However, it turns out that the ‘science’ behind the story was based on one study of 27 (male) mice.Health is so incredibly complex. There is lots we know and plenty we don’t. I would love to see more responsibility from the mainstream media. We need to make it easier for people to discern fact from fiction.
I’ve shared more on my thoughts on that here but, for now, let’s dive in.
Three ways to help close the gender health gap this week
Celebrate Frida uncensored
This new project from parenting brand Frida is in the running for my campaign of the year. I love it that much.
In case you’ve missed it, censoring of content is rampant in women’s health. By using words like 'pelvic floor' or 'vaginal health,' brands will often have their social media accounts shadow-banned or removed.
I’ve been talking about this issue for a few years now. Aside from trying to fight the problem at the source, I recommend that brands look at nurturing their owned platforms, aka the bits they have complete control over, like websites or email lists. (Although I know even mailing lists can be censored, and all of this comes at immense cost and time for brands!)
Frida has taken matters into its own hands by creating an age-gated website for its regularly banned content.
The ‘shocking’ topics include how to do prenatal perineal massage, at home artificial insemination and lactation massage. Sigh.
Head here to access the site. Read more about the project here.
Relish positive menopause experiences
The menopause transition is becoming a daily headline-maker. Stories about workplace discrimination, shortage of HRT and lack of support are unfortunately commonplace.
We, of course, need to understand and solve these problems but should we balance out the conversation?
In a bid to promote menopause positivity, the University of Sheffield has an online exhibition centered on uplifting thoughts and feelings on this life stage.
You can see more gorgeous illustrations and read the personal stories of other women here.
Contribute to fertility planning research
Here’s your chance to join the first decentralized fertility planning study by women’s health research hub, AthenaDAO.
This study aims to understand women's awareness about their fertility, establishing a baseline for future clinical studies.
It's open to all ages, from anywhere in world and takes approximately four minutes.
Bonus this week is a new content series by the brilliant Dr Aziza Sesay. She’s addressing some commonly asked questions in women’s health.
As someone who had recurrent bladder infections in my 20s, I am sharing this video below for anyone who’s currently struggling! Watch the full series here.
Final bonus is for anyone based in/around London who’s keen to hear me talk on a panel about parenting a child with a disability. The event on April 18th by CIPR, PR Mums and 72 Point will help other parents navigate the life juggle and educate HR and People managers on how to support parent carers. Sign up for your free ticket here.

Thanks very much for reading,

Saw The Vagina Monologues last night. It felt at once dated and so current. Scary word. We need to say it more.
